I'm Italian but when I go to California people think I"m hispanic. Anyone else?

When I tell people I'm Italian they look at me like I'm lying. Like I'm Mexican but I'm trying to p for white or something. Does anyone else ever experience this. It's really frustrating. If I was hispanic I would be proud, but please don't make me out to be a lier. Anyone else experience the same kind of thing?
