Could there be something, or am I over reading things.?

I have a friend that I met though an X about two years ago. During a break between the X and I his friend, Tod, mentioned that he really like the time we spent together and felt we had a connection. At that time I said I needed time. The X and I no longer have any contact, but Tod and I talk 5-6 times a week, and visit at least once a month. (We live about 3 hours apart) In June I brought up his previous conversation, and we talked about it, but he said the distance was too much. I was disappointed, but understand his pov, and figured better to have him as a friend than nothing. I went to visit him this weekend and he asked me to meet him at his parents house (30min closer, stayed there with him while he was house sitting, so thought nothing of it) Turns out they were having a dinner party, first time I met his parents, siblings and family friends.
